Great City Inaugural Summit 2023

JACKSON, Miss. – Great City Mississippi Foundation brought some of the nation’s top thought leaders to Jackson today for its inaugural summit. Over one hundred community leaders from across the city attended the event at The Railroad District, to learn and dream about ways to continue to serve Jackson.

“When we all come together with a common goal, desiring to see our city thrive, we can make incredible progress,” said Susan Garrard, President and CEO of the Mississippi Children’s Museum and Founding Board Member for Great City Mississippi. “Today was inspiring, but this wasn’t just a one day event. This is an ongoing conversation and effort to bring these ideas to life in our community. Today was just the beginning.”

Great City Mississippi is a non-profit organization working to see Jackson thrive. The foundation is comprised of local business and community leaders who work with local, state, and national leaders with a focus on public safety, infrastructure, quality of life, and economic and workforce development in Jackson. “Our city stands at a crossroads as we consider the future for ourselves and our children,” said Taylor Nicholas, Executive Director for Great City Mississippi. “Great City is working hard to cast a spotlight of hope on our capital city and spur conversations, through events like today, that will amplify efforts of good work around the metro area.”

Attendees enjoyed several panels throughout the day addressing topics like infrastructure, education, public safety, and workforce development. Speakers included Ryan Gravel, who was instrumental in developing the Beltline in Atlanta; Stephen Moret, President and CEO of the Strada Education network; and several other leaders in the business, education, faith, and tech communities.
