Great City Mississippi Foundation is a non profit 501(c)(3) organization that aims to connect and accelerate efforts improving quality of life for future generations and helping to build a stronger state by investing in the capital city of Jackson, Mississippi.
How can Mississippi retain existing talent and attract future generations?
Over the past decade, 70,000 more people moved out of Mississippi than moved in. Of that outward migration, around 50% of the people moving out were ages 25-34. The loss of the next generation, which is largely college educated and seeking skilled labor positions has been referred to as the state’s “brain drain”. This issue has gained more attention over the past several years as the state, institutions, and the private workforce are working to retain the next generation of leaders in Mississippi.
Reversing Outward Migration
Great City Mississippi Foundation believes improving quality of life is key to reversing outward migration. Improving our capital city by investing in better planning, infrastructure, public safety, and economic development can catalyze change that improves conditions for the next generation.
